The World Cup Debacle

Indian Cricket in Crisis

After the World Cup debacle, the media quoted sources close to Chappell as saying that senior players such as Ganguly, Tendulkar, Harbhajan, Sehwag, and Yuvraj, had undermined the captain's authority and team strategy and this had led to the defeat against Bangladesh. Chappell accused the seniors of pressuring Dravid, who was undecided, to bat first against Bangladesh. This was against Chappell's decision...

After being appointed as the manager, Shastri was quick to clarify that the captain was the "boss" of the team. He added that he wanted a "happy" team and said that cricket was not like a desk job. Shastri said, "Watching the team play the last few months gave me the impression that it was doing a desk job. They allowed the pressure to get to them at the World Cup and didn't play to potential.
